Kearns-Sayre syndrome (KSS) is a rare neuromuscular disorder characterized by progressive muscle weakness, vision problems due to retinal degeneration, and heart conduction defects. It is caused by mutations in the mitochondrial DNA and typically presents before the age of 20.
