Inclusion Body Myositis

Definition

Inclusion body myositis (IBM) is a rare, progressive muscle disorder characterized by inflammation, weakness, and atrophy of the skeletal muscles. It primarily affects adults over the age of 50 and is more common in men. The cause of IBM is not well understood, but it is thought to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
