Definition

Hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) is a condition in which an infant's red blood cells are destroyed by the mother's immune system due to an incompatibility between the mother's and baby's blood types. This can lead to anemia, jaundice, and in severe cases, organ damage or death.
