Filariasis

Definition

Filariasis is a parasitic disease caused by infection with a type of roundworm. These worms are transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. The infection can lead to chronic symptoms and complications, including lymphedema (swelling caused by lymphatic system blockage), elephantiasis (enlargement and skin thickening caused lymphatic system blockage), and hydrocele (fluid-filled sac surrounding the testicle).
