Eczema Herpeticum

Definition

Eczema herpeticum is a rare but severe skin infection caused by the herpes simplex virus, typically affecting individuals with pre-existing skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis or eczema. The infection manifests as clusters of painful, fluid-filled blisters that can spread across the skin and may be accompanied by fever and swollen lymph nodes.
