Definition

Echinococcosis is a parasitic infection caused by tapeworms belonging to the genus Echinococcus. The infection occurs when humans accidentally ingest the eggs of these tapeworms, typically through contaminated food or water. Echinococcosis can lead to the formation of cysts in various organs, most commonly the liver and lungs, which can cause a range of symptoms and complications.
