Cystine Kidney Stones

Definition

Cystine kidney stones are a type of kidney stone formed from the buildup of cystine, an amino acid, in the urine. These stones are relatively rare and are caused by a genetic disorder called cystinuria, which affects the way the body processes cystine. Cystine stones can cause pain, urinary tract infections, and kidney damage if not treated.
