Breast conserving surgery (BCS) is a type of surgery that is used to treat breast cancer. It is sometimes also referred to as a lumpectomy or partial mastectomy. The goal of BCS is to remove the cancerous tumor while preserving as much of the healthy breast tissue as possible.
