Amebiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica. It primarily affects the large intestine and can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and weight loss. In severe cases, the infection can spread to other organs, including the liver and, in rare cases, the lungs and brain.
