Alport Syndrome

Definition

Alport syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by progressive kidney damage, hearing loss, and eye abnormalities. It is caused by mutations in the genes responsible for the production of type IV collagen, a protein essential for the normal function of glomeruli, the kidney's filtering units.
