Definition

Alcohol septal ablation is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition where the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick and restricts blood flow. The procedure involves injecting a small amount of alcohol into the artery supplying blood to the thickened part of the heart muscle and reducing the thickness of the muscle.
