Definition

Abetalipoproteinemia is a rare inherited disorder characterized by the inability to properly absorb dietary fats, cholesterol, and fat-soluble vitamins. This results in extremely low levels of plasma cholesterol and lipoproteins. The condition can lead to various health issues, including neurological problems, retinal degeneration, muscle weakness, and malabsorption of nutrients.
