Luke Barnard, MD, is a cataract surgeon and a glaucoma fellow who cares for patients for Yale Medicine.

Dr. Barnard grew up in a in a medical family. His father is a retired internist and his mother is a retired nurse. “So, I always felt a passion for patient care and medicine,” he says. “I went into ophthalmology because I used to work as a technician for an ophthalmologist, and I fell in love with the specialty and the close relationships we were able to develop with patients.”

Every day in ophthalmology is an opportunity to make a difference, he says. “Working for patients to help improve their vision is the biggest reward.”
