L. Scott Sussman, MD, FHM, FACP

Biography

L. Scott Sussman, MD, is an internal medicine and palliative care physician, and the physician executive director in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer for Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH).

Dr. Sussman cares for patients admitted to the hospital, taking on the roles of hospitalist and, in some cases, palliative care physician. He finds meaning in connecting with patients to understand who they are as human beings.

Building systems that make it easier to do the right thing (i.e. delivering care that is patient-centered and clinician friendly) provided him the opportunity to lead the Clinical Redesign team for YNHHS. In this role, his focus was to optimize inpatient care and reduce unnecessary clinical variation.

Dr. Sussman is an assistant clinical professor at Yale School of Medicine.
