Biography

Gwendolyn Lopez-Cohen, MD, is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist with clinical expertise in anxiety, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders.

“I enjoy working with families and partnering with parents to help their children experience success,” Dr. Lopez-Cohen says. “Child development is a fluid process, and it is very rewarding to watch children change and grow into young adults.”

She is the medical director for outpatient mental health at the Children's Center of Hamden. Dr. Lopez-Cohen has worked on clinical trials studying Guanfacine ER (a cognition-enhancing medication) in children with pervasive developmental disorders.

Prior to her career in medicine, Dr. Lopez-Cohen was an early childhood educator. “Child psychiatry is the ideal field to apply my medical training in conjunction with my training as an educator,” she says.

She is a member of the Connecticut Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
