Positive Interventions for Families with HIV-AIDS

Individuals in the Greater New Haven area who are HIV-positive can access mental health and support services through the Positive Interventions for Families with HIV/AIDS (PIFA) program at Yale Child Study Center (YCSC). Funded by Ryan White Part A and Part D, PIFA provides mental health care and case management for individuals living with HIV, with a special focus on women, perinatally infected youth and adults, and newly diagnosed youth and young adults.

Services

We provide flexible support in a variety of settings—in the home, in the community, or in our offices. Our services focus on addressing mental health needs related to an HIV diagnosis, along with emotional and social challenges. We offer individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy sessions.

In collaboration with the Yale Center for Infectious Disease and other area programs, we also provide advocacy and patient navigation, medical case management, and consultations. We schedule appointments for patients and may provide transportation to medical appointments as needed. Our goal is to help individuals living with HIV/AIDS stay engaged in their treatment, take medication consistently, and maintain both physical and mental well-being.
