Clinic-based digital tools to support sexual and reproductive communication

  • Study HIC#:2000038465
  • Last Updated:06/26/2025

This is a research lab focused project on exploring how healthcare providers, family members, and technology can better support the sexual and reproductive health of Black youth and young adults. The current flagship project aims to better understand how pediatricians, parents/guardians and youth use (or would like to use) digital tools to support youths’ sexual and reproductive health. Based on the insights we gather, our goal is to develop and pilot-test a clinic-based sexual and reproductive health digital tool (such as web-based app) that facilitates communication between clinicians, youth and parents/guardians.

We are looking to interview Black youth ages 11-14, the parents of Black youth ages 11-14, and pediatricians who serve this patient population. During the interview you will be asked questions about your general clinical encounters, clinical and parental support around sexual and reproductive health, and the potential use of technology to help facilitate communication and the provision of medical care.

Youth and parents/guardians will be interviewed separately, in youth-only and parent-only focus groups that will take no more than 2 hours. Pediatricians will be interviewed individually, and the individual interviews will take approximately 1 hour. All interviews will be conducted via Zoom, and participants will receive a $50 electronic-gift card as compensation.
