Treatment for Adults Who Smoke or Vape

This study is designed to test different combinations of treatments to help people quit smoking or vaping. We’re also using brain scans to see how these treatments may affect the parts of the brain that are involved in habits, emotions, and making decisions.

    Trial Purpose and Description

    We’re looking at new ways to help people quit smoking or vaping. Everyone in the study will receive standard treatment for 8 weeks (which includes counseling, and an FDA-approved medication called varenicline), tools for tracking sleep, and some people will also get sleep behavioral therapy.

    Appointments

    There is a total of 6 in-person visits. First, participants will come in for an Intake Appointment to provide consent and finish the final enrollment evaluation. Next, participants will have two brain scans (fMRI), one at the beginning of official participation and one after four weeks of treatment. You will also complete other study assessments, such as surveys and interviews, at weeks 8, 12, and 26.

    You can earn up to $500 for taking part.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To participate, you must be:

    • 18-50 years
    • Comfortable reading and understanding English
    • Smoke or vape consistently
    • Interested in trying to quit
    • Willing and able to lie still in an MRI machine for 90 minutes
    • Comfortable with taking varenicline medication
