Inhibition of Sterile Inflammation by Digoxin

A 3-week study trial to test the effect of Digoxin on immune system. You will be asked to take digoxin (1.5 or 3 mcg/kg) or placebo for 3 weeks, weekly blood work up and EKG will be done. This will test if administering digoxin orally to healthy subjects results in a reduction in innate immune inflammatory responses in the peripheral blood.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

  • All healthy volunteers >18 and <70 years old

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Autoimmune liver disease, chronic viral hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, portal vein thrombosis, extrahepatic terminal disease, pregnancy, treatment with prednisone and pentoxifylline in the last 3 days, active alcohol abuse, AST, ALT and total bilirubin > 3 mg/dl in 3 months, alcoholic hepatitis.
