Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study

Definition

A videofluoroscopic swallow study (VFSS) is a diagnostic procedure that uses real-time X-ray imaging, called fluoroscopy, to evaluate the swallowing function. It helps identify any abnormalities in the oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal phases of swallowing, and is useful in determining the most appropriate treatment for patients with dysphagia or other swallowing disorders.
