Vesicoamniotic Shunting

Definition

Vesicoamniotic shunting is a prenatal surgical procedure performed to treat fetal lower urinary tract obstruction, which can lead to impaired kidney function and pulmonary hypoplasia. The procedure involves the insertion of a shunt into the fetal bladder to allow urine to flow into the amniotic cavity, thereby relieving pressure on the kidneys and promoting lung development.
