A venous ulcer, also known as a venous stasis ulcer, is a type of chronic wound that occurs when the veins in the lower extremities fail to properly return blood back to the heart. This leads to increased pressure in the veins, causing fluid leakage and tissue damage, ultimately resulting in an open sore.
