Vasa Previa

Definition

Vasa previa is a rare obstetric complication characterized by fetal blood vessels crossing or running near the small, internal opening at the center of the cervix, unsupported by the placenta or umbilical cord. These vessels are at risk of rupture during labor or delivery, which can lead to fetal hemorrhage and potentially life-threatening consequences for the fetus.
