Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT)

Definition

Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) is a surgical procedure used to diagnose, stage, and treat bladder cancer. It involves the removal of bladder tumors and surrounding tissues through the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body) using a specialized instrument called a resectoscope. This minimally invasive procedure allows for the examination of tumor samples and helps determine the appropriate course of treatment.
