Pterygium is a benign growth of the conjunctiva, a thin, transparent tissue that covers the white part of the eye. It usually appears as a triangular-shaped tissue that extends from the inner corner of the eye towards the cornea. Pterygium is often caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light, dry eye, or irritants such as dust and wind.
