A PleurX catheter is a device used to drain fluid due to pleural effusion from the pleural space, which is the area between the two layers of tissue that line the lungs and chest wall. The catheter can be left in place for up to 28 days, allowing for repeated drainage of the fluid without having to undergo multiple procedures.
