Percutaneous Transhepatic Portography
Definition
Percutaneous transhepatic portography (PTP) is a diagnostic procedure that involves the insertion of a needle through the skin and liver to access the portal vein. A contrast agent is then injected, and X-ray images are taken to visualize the blood flow within the portal venous system. This procedure is used to assess liver function, diagnose portal hypertension, and evaluate potential candidates for liver transplantation.
