Neurofibromatosis Type 2, NF2
Definition
Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the development of noncancerous tumors in the nervous system, particularly on the vestibular nerves that connect the inner ear to the brain. These tumors, called vestibular schwannomas, can cause hearing loss, balance problems, and other neurological symptoms. NF2 may also lead to the formation of tumors in other parts of the nervous system.
