Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia

Definition

Neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (NAIT) is a rare condition that occurs when a pregnant woman's immune system produces antibodies against her baby's platelets, leading to a low platelet count in the newborn. This can result in bleeding complications, such as intracranial hemorrhage, which can cause serious health problems or even be life-threatening.
