Needle Localization Biopsy, Wire Localization Biopsy

Definition

Needle localization biopsy, also known as wire localization biopsy, is a diagnostic procedure used to locate and remove abnormal breast tissue or a suspicious mass that cannot be felt. It involves the insertion of a thin wire with a hooked end into the breast under imaging guidance, such as mammography or ultrasound, to pinpoint the area of concern. Once the wire is in place, a surgeon can follow it to remove the targeted tissue for further examination.
