Mediastinal Tumors

Definition

Mediastinal tumors are abnormal growths that develop in the mediastinum, the central compartment of the chest cavity that separates the lungs and contains vital structures such as the heart, esophagus, trachea, and major blood vessels. These tumors can be benign or malignant and may arise from various tissues, including thymus, lymph nodes, or nerve cells.
