Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

Definition

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is an advanced form of radiation therapy used to treat cancer and noncancerous tumors. It utilizes computer-controlled linear accelerators to deliver precise radiation doses to a tumor or specific areas within the tumor, while minimizing the dose to surrounding healthy tissue. This targeted approach allows for higher radiation doses to be delivered to the tumor, potentially increasing the effectiveness of treatment and reducing side effects.
