Definition

Hypoglossal nerve disorders are a group of conditions affecting the function of the hypoglossal nerve, which is responsible for controlling the movements of the tongue. These disorders can result from various causes, such as tumor, stroke, infection or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It may lead to difficulties in speaking, swallowing, or moving the tongue.
