HIV-Associated Nephropathy

Definition

HIV-associated nephropathy (HIVAN) is a kidney disorder that occurs in individuals with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It is characterized by the progressive deterioration of kidney function, leading to chronic kidney disease or end-stage renal disease. HIVAN is caused by the direct effects of the virus on kidney cells and the immune system's response to the infection.
