Hereditary spherocytosis is a genetic blood disorder characterized by the presence of abnormally shaped red blood cells called spherocytes. This condition leads to hemolytic anemia, as the misshapen red blood cells are less flexible and more prone to breaking apart, resulting in a reduced ability to transport oxygen throughout the body.
