Genital Herpes

Definition

Genital herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). It is characterized by outbreaks of painful, itchy, and sometimes fluid-filled blisters on or around the genital and anal areas. The virus can be transmitted through sexual contact, even when no symptoms are present, and can also be passed from mother to child during childbirth.
