Definition

Gender-affirming surgery is a medical procedure that involves altering an individual's physical appearance and function of their existing sexual characteristics to resemble those of their identified gender. This can include various surgical procedures for ages 19 and older, such as top surgery (breast augmentation or mastectomy), bottom surgery (hysterectomy, and salpingectomy/oophorectomy, vaginoplasty, phalloplasty, or metoidioplasty), and facial feminization or masculinization surgeries.
