Erysipelas

Definition

Erysipelas is a bacterial skin infection characterized by the rapid onset of inflammation, redness, and swelling in the affected area. It is typically caused by the group A streptococcus bacteria and primarily affects the upper dermis (outermost skin layer) and lymphatic vessels of the skin. Erysipelas can occur on any part of the body but is most commonly found on the face and lower extremities.
