Definition

Distal muscular dystrophy, also known as distal myopathy, is a group of rare genetic muscle disorders characterized by progressive weakness and atrophy of the distal muscles, which are those furthest from the center of the body, such as the muscles in the hands, feet, lower arms, and lower legs. The severity and progression of the condition can vary among individuals.
