Discoid Lupus Erythematosus

Definition

Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is a chronic autoimmune skin condition characterized by the appearance of round, disk-shaped lesions on the face, scalp, and other areas of the body. These lesions are often scaly, red, and raised, and can lead to scarring and pigment changes. DLE is a form of cutaneous lupus erythematosus and is typically limited to the skin, but in some cases, it may progress to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), which affects multiple organs.
