Chronic Venous Insufficiency

Definition

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a medical condition characterized by the inability of the veins in the lower extremities to effectively return blood to the heart. This results from damaged or weakened valves in the veins, leading to blood pooling and increased pressure in the affected veins. Over time, CVI can cause pain, swelling, and skin changes in the legs.
