Definition

African Trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness, is a parasitic disease transmitted by the bite of an infected tsetse fly. The disease is caused by protozoan parasites belonging to the Trypanosoma genus that infects the brain and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It can lead to severe headache, fever, weight loss, confusion, and lethargy. It can result in death if left untreated.
