Biography

Nadine Housri, MD, is a radiation oncologist who specializes in the treatment of lung cancer. She works alongside oncologists and surgeons to care for patients with advanced lung cancer, and treats early-stage lung cancers with stereotactic radiotherapy, a potentially curative, well-tolerated treatment that targets tumors with high doses of radiation.

Dr. Housri, whose father was a hematologist, says medicine has always been a part of her life. She pursued radiation oncology because she found that she loved taking care of cancer patients and enjoyed the combination of science and technology, and working with medical oncologists and surgeons to think through cases and offer the best treatment for patients.

She treats every patient as she would her own family members, and that means listening to their concerns, fears, symptoms, and worries. “I try to pay attention to everything that is affecting them from both a physical and emotional perspective,” she says. “Oftentimes, understanding and listening is ultimately what a person needs—and letting them know that you want to make their quality of life the best it can be. That is what I would want from a physician myself.”

An associate professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Housri is also a cofounder and chief medical officer of TheMednet, an online platform where physicians can get expert answers to real-world clinical situations. She has conducted research to investigate how platforms like TheMednet can make expert knowledge available to physicians who need it. “As a physician, I don’t want to leave any stone unturned as far as getting the best care for my patients, and theMednet provides that same opportunity for my colleagues around the country” she says.
