Mary Zorzanello, MSN, APRN (BC)
Biography
Mary Zorzanello, MSN, APRN, is a member of the Yale Medicine nephrology team. She provides care for patients both in outpatient dialysis units and chronic disease kidney clinics.
Zorzanello says she was inspired to work in nephrology because she knew it would be an area where she could “provide care for patients with a chronic illness, helping them to understand it and learn to manage it in the context of their own personal backgrounds and situations.” She especially enjoys forming long-term relationships with patients and their families, and being part of a treatment team that truly emphasizes the "care" part of patient care.
She tells her patients, “’There are no ‘stupid’ questions’—whatever is worrying them is valid and it is perfectly human to be scared about the unknown.”
Before becoming a nurse practitioner and joining the nephrology team at Yale in 2007, Zorzanello started and managed a large peritoneal dialysis program, which led to various publications and speaking engagements. She also has a certified hypertension clinician designation from the American Society of Hypertension, and is part of Yale Medicine’s hypertension program.
