Anamika Katoch, MD
Anamika Katoch, MD, is a general oncologist who says the best part of her job is connecting with patients.
“I love the time I spend with patients, and I like to approach them as a whole. I believe in physical, spiritual, nutritional, and emotional aspects of treatment and that they are all equally important,” Dr. Katoch says. “I understand that cancer is a frightening and overwhelming diagnosis and that patients and their families need compassion and support, which we can provide. I want to thank my patients for the honor and trust they place in me when entrusting their care to me.”
Dr. Katoch takes care of patients with breast, lung, gastric, and colon cancers, as well as myelomas and lymphomas. She has a special interest in breast cancer treatment and is part of the multidisciplinary breast cancer team at Smilow Cancer Hospital.
She says she has seen significant growth in the last several years in terms of breast cancer treatment and that it is heartening to see the progress of science applied to her patients.
“It is also gratifying to connect with patients on a personal level and understand their hopes, desires, and dreams. I love every minute of it, and I feel lucky to be one of the few people who can say that they wake up with a great deal of enthusiasm to go to work every day because it feels like an extension of myself,” Dr. Katoch says. “I always hope that I am able to offer cutting-edge treatment to my patients. I always hope to bring them solace, comfort, and kindness.”
When it comes to reassuring patients, Dr. Katoch says she tells them, “Deal with what we have today. We will find a way to make it better. Don't look too far ahead. Try to live your life to the fullest. Let’s try our very best and then leave some things to a higher power or chance or miracle or luck—or a combination of all.”
