Paul L. McCarthy, MD, section chief of general pediatrics for Yale Medicine, is an expert in inflammatory, autoimmune and rheumatologic diseases in children. He pays particular attention to making sure patients and their families receive a high level of personalized care and a broad range of supportive services. “Our care is individualized for the specific complaints. Our team is available continuously to answer questions and provide ongoing care,” he says.

A professor of pediatrics and a clinical professor of nursing at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. McCarthy focuses his research on improving the way inflammatory diseases are assessed both in the exam room and the lab. He is excited by the way advances in the diagnosis, understanding and treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases are advancing medicine.

Dr. McCarthy encourages young patients to stay involved in school, play with friends and celebrate their accomplishments, telling them a positive home environment is critical for children with chronic health conditions. He takes great satisfaction from “caring for children with these illnesses as they develop and mature.”
