Craig D. Tifford, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine. He has been practicing orthopaedic surgery in the Stamford area since 2000. Dr. Tifford treats a broad range of athletic injuries and has special experience in arthroscopic surgery, as well as reconstruction of the knee and shoulder joints. He is the Fairfield County regional director for Yale Medicine Orthopedics & Rehabilitation.

One of the more cutting-edge procedures Dr. Tifford performs is “all-inside” ACL reconstruction, a minimally invasive operation that allows the ACL to be reconstructed through three small puncture-type incisions as opposed to one or two large incisions. While this surgery may not allow patients to return to their sports any sooner, it results in less initial post-operative pain and swelling, and therefore often allows patients to progress more quickly with physical therapy. It is also cosmetically appealing and results in minimal scarring.

“I would say that my approach to patient care is one that is at ease and infused with humor whenever possible—and of course, appropriate,” he says, “I am inspired by a successful outcome in a satisfied and appreciative patient.” In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Tifford is an accomplished author who has lectured across the country.
