Aileen Gariepy, MD, MPH, wants to make sure her patients have the latest information about birth control options. “On average, women spend 30 years of their lives trying to avoid pregnancy,” says Dr. Gariepy. “I'm here to help. Developments in contraceptive technology have led to pregnancy prevention options that better match women's needs—and can be 20 times more effective than the pill.”

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Gariepy is assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences, and assistant clinical professor of nursing at Yale School of Medicine. She is committed to making women’s lives better through patient-oriented clinical research focusing on unintended pregnancy, contraception and abortion. Her latest work focuses on the relationship between pregnancy planning and maternal mental health. In 2014, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg cited Dr. Gariepy’s research in a Supreme Court decision on the impact of cost on IUD utilization (Burwell v. Hobby Lobby).

“I am continuously amazed and humbled by the difficult circumstances women and their families find themselves in, and the strength and grace with which they approach their decisions,” says Dr. Gariepy. “I love taking care of women.”
